  • You know, how they say that if you can't explain it to a five year old- you can't really understand it yourself. This guy really knows his stuff. He kind of reminds me of my history teacher, who was so passionate about the subject, that it ignited love for it in her students. Now I'd like to learn more about meteorology. It's amazing.

  • When he commented about being in the hurricane eye being a meteorologist wet dream I was thinking along the lines of 'its horrible, awful and I would gladly forget that experience' then he said how everyone else would hate it and my mind was 'Ok disregard that, I forgive you' I was in an odd hurricane that got inside a circle of mountains thru a narrow pass and we were stuck on the ceiling of a gas station until the dam thing died.

  • 36:20 What your seeing is NOT a pyroclastic cloud, but rather the Ejective column. A pyroclastic cloud happens when there's a momentary interuption of the volcanic pressure that causes some of the ash on the outside of the column to fall back to ground and flow downhill. They're a mix of superheated ash and air at more than 500 degrees C, travelling at up to 200 kilometers an hour, that will kill anybody in the way.

  • Waves on the ocean have what's called periodicity ... the distance between peaks, but when two sets of waves with different periods exist in the same storm, THAT'S when rogue waves can occur, as waves that are passing each other ADD THEIR HEIGHTS. So if a peak and a trough meet they'll cancel each other out, but if two 3/4 troughs are followed by two peaks you can get waves up to 3.5 times the average wave height (not just 2 times this guy mentioned), and that can kill when the average wave height is only a quite survivable 5-6 meters (15-19 feet)

Hot, Summer days usually with an inversion layer that held the smog low over the city, which you could see standing on a hill overlooking, which I remember very clearly (not so clearly the smog was almost opague.

  • Lightning striking the same place twice. My teacher explained it to me like this. The conditions that made a point likely to be struck the first time also make future lighting strikes more probable than average. It's just that lightning strikes are so rare that the same person is unlikely to see it to report it twice. I love a good thunderstorm. Been close to a strike twice. Awesome, but scary.
